COLUMBUS — A man charged in Columbus with killing his mother and wounding his sister on Saturday, Oct. 17, was free on bond following an Aug. 5 domestic violence arrest in Beavercreek.
Daniel James Neeley, 22, of 1897 N. 4th St., Apt. B, Columbus, has been charged with murder and felonious assault, according to Franklin County Municipal Court records. He is to be arraigned Monday morning.
Julie Neeley, 51, of 413 Millstone Drive, died at Ohio State University Medical Center.
Bethany Lafountain, 25, of 347 Butterfly Drive, Beavercreek, was taken to the same hospital. Her condition was unknown Sunday night.
Neeley’s domestic violence charge, a first-degree misdemeanor, is still pending. There is a temporary protection order, according to Fairborn Municipal Court.
Details about the August incident, including who filed the temporary protection order, were not available Sunday night.
The shootings occurred at Daniel Neeley’s duplex in the city’s University District. Police were called there about 5 p.m. Saturday on the report of a double shooting.
Officers found one of the women on the back porch screaming and the other inside the home, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
Daniel Neeley was booked in the Franklin County Jail just before 9 p.m.
Police arrested him about two hours earlier after stopping him as he was driving on the east side of Columbus, the Dispatch reported.
Neeley lives at the address where the shooting took place, according to Franklin County and Fairborn court records. A 2008 traffic ticket lists his address as his mother’s home.
