WEST PALM BEACH, FL--A photograph shows 48-year-old Brenda Romano and 30-year-old Zechariah Grams during happier times. The couple's relationship came to a violent end early Tuesday morning. "At about 1:53 this morning our agency received a call about a disturbance at 1111 Oak Street. And when our units responded they found one victim shot in the face at the scene," said Det. Tony Kalil. Romano's boyfriend was shot and killed by her 21-year-old son Matthew, according to police. "There was an argument that ensued earlier in the night and at some point between the victim and his girlfriend and then the son came out and ended up shooting him," he said. Grams was transported by ambulance to St. Mary's Medical Center where he later died. As crime scene investigators gathered evidence from the home, the family embraced outside. Brenda Romano was visibly shaken by what happened. Matthew Romano was taken into custody for questioning and released. No charges have been filed at this time. Investigators are looking for witnesses to the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the West Palm Beach Police Department. |
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
