LOUISA — A Louisa County jury has convicted a 54-year-old man of murdering his wife after an argument over Christmas lights.
Authorities say Forrest Smythers shot Dawn Smythers once in the head with a .22 caliber rifle in their home on Jan. 16. Forrest Smythers told investigators that he had wanted to take down their Christmas lights, but that his wife had opposed the idea.
Jurors convicted him Wednesday of first-degree murder and using a firearm in a felony. They recommended a sentence of life plus three years in prison. Sentencing was set for Dec. 14.
