WACO - Texas State Technical College police are investigating an attempted murder/suicide in campus housing as crime scene tape surrounds a house in the 300 block of Maxwell Lane.

TSTC Police Department responded to the house after getting a call of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found Brenda Beringer suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center and underwent surgery.

Officers also found Daniel Beringer suffering from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Kristi DeCluitt.

TSTC Police Department say they are investigating this as an attempted murder/suicide.

Jan Osburn with TSTC Marketing & Communications reported TSTC Police were called out just before 8:00 a.m.

"There is no eminent danger for students," Osburn said.

News Channel 25 obtained an email sent to faculty and staff. It reads:

"This morning TSTC Police Department received a call of a shooting in the college's campus family housing. Police are investigating an apparent attempted murder and suicide.

The college administration would like all students, faculty and staff to know that there is no danger. "

Neighbors tell News Channel 25 they heard multiple shots being fired. An officer on the scene reports there were two gunshot victims at the house. One of the victims, he said, was transported to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.

TSTC Police were seen placing a gun and a ammunition clip into an evidence bag.

"Campus is pretty darn quiet," A TSTC professor tells News Channel 25, "it's business as usual for me."
