DAYTON, Ohio -- Shelly Sue Turner has been missing for nearly three years -- today, Aug. 27, two people testified that Turner's former boyfriend Harold Barker admitted to killing her.
Barker, 55, was arrested April 17 on charges of murder, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence. The case is one of the few times that Montgomery County prosecutors have indicted someone for murder without a body.
One witness testified that Barker told him in 2006 that he had killed his girlfriend, cut up her body, and buried it in a barrel. A second witness also testified that Barker told her he had accidentally killed Turner during an argument and then hid the body.
Turner was with Barker the night of September 30, 2006 at Shag's Tavern, 1926 S. Smithville Road. According to a police report, Barker told officers Turner got into a vehicle with another man.
Turner's vehicle and belongings were left abandoned at her home. Police believe the 38-year-old mother of two was killed, though the entire case appears to rest on the testimony of the two witnesses.
Barker has been in the Montgomery County Jail on $1 million bond since his arrest.
