2:00 a.m. July 25, 2009

SAN DIEGO: Police have arrested the boyfriend of a 58-year-old North Park woman who died yesterday afternoon from head injuries suffered in an attack earlier in the day.

San Diego police Homicide Lt. Terry McManus said that shortly after 9:15 a.m., a man called police and said his girlfriend was dying inside their home on Illinois Street near Monroe Avenue.

The woman, who had severe head injuries, was taken by paramedics to a hospital, where she died at 2:11 p.m.

Her name was being withheld until relatives could be contacted.

The woman's boyfriend, Harold Dwayne Jones, 47, was questioned by homicide detectives, and police “learned information that caused them to believe” Jones was a suspect in the attack, McManus said.

Jones has been booked into jail on suspicion of murder.

A motive for the attack was not known, McManus said. –J.H.J.
