BERTHOUD - Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that happened at a birthday party Wednesday night. The police chief tells 9NEWS he believes the shooter is the woman's husband. Police Chief Glenn Johnson says the police department, fire protection district and EMS got a call about a reported shooting on Weld County Road 7, about a half mile from Highway 56, around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. When crews arrived at the scene, they found the woman's body. Police have not released her name. Johnson says the shooting happened outside. At the time of the shooting, there was an adult birthday party in progress. Police say about 20 people were there. No one else was injured. Police say they found the suspect shot to death in a nearby mobile home around 10:55 p.m. As of Thursday morning, police say it appears he took his own life. Johnson says there hasn't been a homicide in Berthoud in the three and a half years that he has been chief. |
