Man Kills Wife, Turns Gun on Himself

Last Update: 6/29 8:46 am

A Madera County man and his wife were found dead Sunday afternoon in what police are calling an apparent murder-suicide.

The couple's daughter discovered the bodies of 51-year-old Leslie Gillis and 61-year-old Gerald Gillis at their home near San Bruno and Watt Street.

The call was received by Madera dispatch around 4:44 pm. Deputies believe at least one shot was heard around 2 p.m. Sunday, according to reports.

According to a report released by Madera County Sheriff John Anderson, Leslie was found inside the home with gun shot wounds. Gerald was found in the front yard of the home with what appears to be a self-inflicted gun shout wound, said Anderson.

As of now, investigators say there are no signs that indicate the incident was more than a domestic case turned murder-suicide.

This is the first homicide to occur in the county this year.
