Prosecutors said today that they will seek the death penalty for a Tampa man accused of throwing his ex-girlfriend's baby from a moving car onto a highway.
Richard McTear Jr., 21, attacked Jasmine Bedwell, 17, and her 3-month-old son, Emanuel Wesley Murray, on May 5. He then reportedly threw the infant on the concrete, picked him up, drove off with him and threw him from a car onto Interstate 275 in Tampa.
He faces a first-degree murder charge, to which he pleaded 'not guilty' in late May.
His new girlfriend, Ida Williams, 40, cried throughout the hearing. Williams told The St. Petersburg Times that she had started dating McTear -- a friend of her 17-year-old son -- since his arrest, and didn't believe he was guilty of the charges because "he's too kind to do something like that."
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
