Ponchatoula man arrested in death of ex-girlfriend

Associated Press - June 10, 2009 3:24 PM ET

HAMMOND, La. (AP) - Tangipahoa Parish authorities say a Ponchatoula man wanted in the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend has been arrested in Arizona.

Sheriff Daniel Edwards says Walter Charles Gibson was arrested at about 6 a.m. Wednesday in Pima County, Arizona.

Deputies say Gibson's former girlfriend, Kimberly Knox, identified Gibson as the man who shot her before she died at a hospital Tuesday morning.

The 31-year-old Knox was shot in the front yard of her home in Hammond. Investigators said Gibson apparently was waiting outside of Knox's home and allegedly fired four shots before fleeing the scene.

Gibson is being held in the Pima County jail awaiting extradition to Louisiana.
