HELENA, MS (WLOX) - "This is a real quiet area," said Joe Freeman, who lives on Kings Road in the Helena community.  "We don't have no violence, kids are safe. It's a shocker."

Freeman was in his house Saturday morning, but he didn't hear what police said was a murder just down the road.

"I didn't even see no cops go down there," Freeman said. "Must of happened early in the morning. I don't know."

Casey Dwayne Hall is charged with shooting Steven Fairly multiple times in a home across the street from Freeman's. Police said Fairly entered the home of Regina Vice-Hall, Hall's ex-wife, around 6 a.m. Saturday and found Hall and Vice-Hall in a bedroom.

Authorities said Hall fired Vice-Hall's handgun at Fairly multiple times.

"Hall tried to say he was shooting in self defense, but he shot multiple times," said Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd. "One shot or maybe two could be self defense, but not multiple shots."

Fairly was pronounced dead shortly afterward, at Singing River Hospital. Byrd said he believes Vice-Hall had relationships with both men.

The shooting is still under investigation, and Byrd said he is still trying to determine how Fairly entered the home. He said no signs of forced entry were evident.

Freeman said he doesn't know any of the people directly involved, but that doesn't take away from the tragedy.

"This is a bit extreme," he said.  "It's sad. I don't wish that on nobody. Not even my worst enemies."

Hall is being held in the Jackson County Adult Detention Center and awaits an initial appearance in County Court.

According to officials, Hall currently resides in Grand Bay, Alabama.  Fairly lived in Vancleave.
