A Janesville man who allegedly strangled his girlfriend before pushing her out of the home was arrested by the Janesville police SWAT team, which was called to the scene because the man had a gun inside the residence.
Janesville police said Richard T. Hall, 38, was tentatively charged with strangulation/domestic violence and taken to the Rock County Jail after the incident, which ended about 1 a.m. Friday at a home on Stellar Drive in Janesville.
Police received a domestic violence complaint Thursday night, with the female victim telling police she'd been strangled and pushed out of the residence by her boyfriend.
"She also told officers her boyfriend had at least one gun in the residence, but no threats had been made by him with the weapon," Sgt. Kay Nikolaus of the Janesville Police Department said in a press release.
Officers tried to phone Hall and also used a bullhorn but Hall didn't respond.
The SWAT team was called in shortly after 11 p.m., making contact with Hall about two hours later after they broke out a bedroom window on the residence.
He was arrested without incident.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
